A light and refreshing soup which is suitable on days when you have on table a lot of strong flavored dishes. Chinese winter-melon is cooling for the body and the Chinese yam adds a sweet natural taste to the soup. I usually mash up the winter melon and mix it in the soup so that the kids will get the dietary fiber goodness from the winter melon while drinking the soup.
Making the sauce from scratch means that I know what ingredients are doing into the dish and I can control the amount of salt being added into the children's food. I drizzle sauce over baby pasta and it’s good even when I have to bring it out for his meals. I just place the sauce and pasta in separate thermos flask and mix them together for his meals when we are outside.
ABC Soup are ingredients that most kitchens will stock up on, carrots, potatoes and onions. It's easy on the palette and Singaporean kids grew up on this soup. I've been cooking this soup for my kids since they were toddlers and until now. Remember to dice the vegetables into smaller pieces for younger kids so that it is easier for them to eat.
This soup is 1 of my kids favorite soup and they can just have it with white rice. Add some lean pork while cooking and serve it with white rice and it becomes a complete meal. Lotus roots contains loads of nutritional benefits (just Google it) and is great for growing kids.
Braised pork belly requires minimal ingredient and the sauce is so flavorful from using potatoes as a natural thickening agent instead of cornflour. This dish can also be cooked in a slow cooker and braised slowly as you go out for errands to return home to a warm pot of tasty pork belly.
